Home » Baseball News A statistical look at Rocky Mount baseball July 28, 2008 By iHigh Staff of Rocky Mount High School Head coach Pat Smith - sixth season (97-53 at RMHS) - won a state title as a coach at 4-A South Johnston, 1990; won a state title as player (pitcher) at 1-A Robersonville, 1967. An interesting irony: Smith won his HS state title the same day Rocky Mount won its state title in 1967. Smith also played Legion ball for Post 58. Note: Will Flowers is 361-256 in his 26th season at Fike Earlier contests with Fike this season: RM won 3-1; WF won 9-8, 11 inn.; WF won 1-0 (tiebreaker for No. 1 seed) Best RM record since 1996: deepest run into the playoffs since 1996 - lost to Lee County in the 4-A East finals @ Five County Stadium (last season for now-retired head coach Shelton Chesson). This is the second-straight 20-win season for RM since 1995 and 1996. The 1995 RM team recorded 13 shutouts - a state record. 2008 RM Team Stats: Team BA .326; Scored 200 runs - 7.4 runs per game; allowed just 80; 244 hits - 9 hits per game; Team ERA 1.66. RM has hit 10 HRs.
